You'd think . . .

. . . that eight arms would make ironing easier.
But alas, it does not. My big octie brain still gets distracted by all of the beautiful fabrics.

The rain is done!!

Today I'm playing Sprinkler-Buckets! It is so much fun! Co. says when they were young they used to play Sprinkler but never Sprinkler-Buckets. I guess I'm just that much cooler than they are.

I love Sprinkler-Buckets!

Summer 2008

Today I've been thinking a lot about summer. It's kind of hard not to when it's 90 degrees in Boston - although it feels like 200.

Temperature aside, I think summer represents different things to individuals. But as unique as your idea of summer might be, you still call it summer. It is still part of a cohesive whole, although it may look or sound uncommon, your summer coincides with my summer which corresponds with my neighbors summer. We're all having our summers, as matchless as they seem, often they create a complimentary pattern that may even be stitched with a common thread.

No green thumbs.

Co. brought home some new flowers last night. They kill me with their interest in live plants. They can't keep anything alive. Aside from this new addition, we have two living plants in the entire place. I'm pretty sure they are the kind that you can't kill, but I think, given time, Co. will kill those as well.

They've made these two new flowering plants (the others are just leaves) into a window box. While it is different, I think I really like the setup they've got going on. And who knows, maybe with all that sunshine the newbies just might make it!

Art History

It has been three entire days since I was in the library, but I just can't stop thinking about it! I want to be there all. the. time. !. There are SO many books I could be reading, so many pictures to be taken, yet I'm stuck traveling to work and back with Co.

Look at these images. How amazing is this stuff? At first t kind of confused me. I thought, "What am I supposed to be seeing?"

Then I pulled out a few more books. Different writing, different images of. the. same. things. !. For some reason different angles, perspectives and interactions with the same images helped me.

Nowhere but the library could I have taken six books and compared exactly the same things. It was AWESOME. I picked up books from the 1930s, the 1950s, the 1980s and 2000s. The images were completely different. Writing wasn't even comparable and the experience was priceless.

July 14th

July 14 is the 195th day of the year (196th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar.

There are 170 days remaining until the end of the year.
I'm going to use every one of them breaking in my new hairbrush. I've had my old one for nearly a decade!

The Neolithic Period

"The warming of the climate . . . was so gradual that the people of the time could not have known it was occurring, yet it altered life as dramatically as any changes that have come since. The retreating glaciers exposed large temperate regions, and rising ocean levels changed the shorelines of continents, in some places making islands."

Found a world map here. Interactive maps here

We're into our own version of the Neolithic Period. Crazy. Glad I can swim cause my place will be under water with a 12 meter increase. Although according to Co. we're only experiencing a 2mm per year increase. So it would take, roughy, 9000 years for Boston to be below water. Okay, that puts things into perspective.

My Public Library

I Loooooooooooove the public library. I love getting an idea in my head and exploring it until I can't see straight. The best part is losing track of time and place. I think that's what Csíkszentmihályi calls Flow. I can find Flow at the library. Did you know I LOVE THE LIBRARY?!

Sometimes I just go in with an idea. Thanks to the library I leave with knowledge, understanding and a brain full of new information, facts and ideas. It is such a beautiful, beautiful thing to enjoy getting smarter.

Today I wanted to learn more about Art History. When I first arrive at the library it is hard for me to settle down. I always check out their music and videos and browse new books. I make a point to meander through the photography shelves and pull a few to thumb (well, tentacle) through. Then I hit the [online] card catalog and find a section. Generally I annoy librarians as I only want a direction and not one specific call number. They come over, tell me to write it down, this happened today, and I restate my question, "Are the 709's art history books?"  "Will I find other books of this topic in that section?" They concede that I can just go and look and I'm off, one sad call number along for the ride.

Surrounded by knowledge.
